So yeah. As those of you that really know me might have been able to ascertain, I was built to play the blues. I merely took more time than most to find my conduit through which to do so. My instrumental side has been laying dormant for a number of years and has been rudely awakened and is hungry. This is the steak knife whose serrated blade I will use to exsanguinate my prey. Forgive me if this is a bit to metaphorical...............it will soon be my new guitar. It is as "Meade" as it gets. I played a guitar similar today and it didn't quite feel or sound right. I know without playing this one that it will be the next Gladys (which is the name for my guitars). Right down to the carbon fiber dotted fret markers, it breathes "me." Just felt like I should share so no one is surprised when I start sending out mix cd's. :D

So I finally got my Tulane ring back. It's super preddy. I'm currently using Xgl with compiz, and for those of you not in the know, compiz is, as the hipsters would say, dah r0x0rz. 3d desktop is the ONLY way to fly. I can't wait until it's more worked on and becomes the standard. The thing that makes me laugh so much is that the new windows, wista, is going to have some of the same effects as Xgl/compiz. However, you can run the open source version on damn near anything, whereas vista will require a spaceship to open up the applications menu. And people WILL pay for this crap when better things have been available for free for years before. Barg. Just barg.

As a small p.s., I have a stable blog on my website at http://kincke.com. I'll occasionally post stuff there in addition to my livejournal.

    <lj:music>Death Cab For Cutie-Marching Bands Of Manhattan</lj:music>

It's cold in New Orleans. I use the term cold loosely, but for this city, it's cold. It's running about 63°F here tonight. It turns on the electric mixer for my soul, which is not a good thing given all what's going on with me lately. It's 4:21 AM here and I'm still not asleep. Incidently, my server has been running for 33 days and 3.5 hours and couldn't be happier. I have felt so bewildered lately. I drive to class and come back. Go to lab and come back. I don't learn anything and I feel nothing during class. One, I suppose positive, note happened the other day though. I realized why I haven't done well in school. I don't enjoy the things I am being made to kick into my skull, so I do it just well enough to get by. Mind you, none of this is done consciously, that's what makes it so much more fun. In the same vein as Sinatra, I did it "my way." If this makes any sense, I think my head wants to be able to become a physician, a great physician, and stand above all else and prove that all the pain that this system has caused me was in vain.

I just want to feel like I'm home. One of the nights at the ER Tracy and I got to discussing places to live and somehow I mentioned that I felt like New York fit me right. He told me that I would get along very well in New York, which made me happy in comparison to most of the other comments I've received in response. Most of people's retorts are something along the lines of "why the hell'd you wanna live there?" Which makes me laugh coming from New Orlenians. My mother made some wonderful comments about "my grandkids are gonna have that New York accent." Which made me play some Coffee Talk scenes in my head. "I'm getting all vaclempt." But I digest. Not all is bad. We had a great pizza from none other than New York Pizza and we're leaving for Fort Worth to househunt in about a week. That is somewhat crazy in and of itself. I'll leave you with these words of wisdom:

Don't hate yourself in the morning -- sleep till noon.

Dr. Meado

    <lj:music>Michael Bublé-Song For You</lj:music>

I adore how I feel right now. I'm listening to Michael Bublé and just loving the fact that I finally got my new Ubuntu (linux) server set up completely, that is, minus an ftp. But the ftp is not of necessity at all, merely to have perchance to store stuff. Unlike windows servers, linux divides up everything into modules, which gives the user more power, but also adds to the things that can possibly go wrong in setting it up. After about a week of overtime work on the damned thing inbetween class and whatnot, the beast is complete. I also have IMAP which I didn't have on my old server. Man, just thinking back on how crappy Hendrix's server was, they should really adopt what I'm using. So yeah, as always, meade@kincke.com is back with a vengeance.

On a different note, I'm writing this journal with a wonderful little linux app called Drivel. It has all the features of livejournal, but in an application, so's I don't have to deal with a messy and annoying webpage. I dig linux much. But more to the point that I actually wanted to get to: I'm getting my Tulane ring this Friday. I originally didn't want to get one, but I'm hella psyched that I am now. With the Katrina messiness, this year has felt like some sort of bad dream. It feels somewhat less surreal and moreso just plain old real. It is going to be strange getting my ring when I'll be the only senior I'll know though.

Also, I received a book I ordered in the mail the other day: Osteopathic Principles In Practice. It's one of the books I'll read first/second year in med school, and I wanted to treat my brain to something completely different and actually entertaining. I can't quite grasp how to end this little ditty, so "to quote Ross, 'I'd better be going.'"

    <lj:music>Dave Matthews Band - If I Had It All</lj:music>

Well, my last year at Tulane is winding down, I don't want to do any work for my lab classes (which is all of them) and to crash down on any fun I've been having lately, I found out recently who the speaker(s) at my graduation are going to be...........George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton. It's almost as if the energy of the universe figured out two of the people that I would LOVE having at a pseudo-important event and replaced LOVE with DETEST. Barg. Just fucking barg. On an actual positive note, we're planning the trip to Fort Worth to pick out our rental house. It's gonna be so cool to actually have a house complete with fence and puppy. It's also going to be rather strange not being in school and drawing blood for a living. I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming year being that I won't have the overlying guilt complex of "If I'm studying, it should be for my current classes," which I don't do and because of that guilt, I don't study anything for med school. (In best Fat Bastard voice) It's a vicious cycle. So yeah, things are looking up now that I'm almost done with the hell of the uselessness of undergrad. I don't think I'll know what to do when I don't have to go to class.............maybe enjoy life for a little bit?

    <lj:music>Sneaker Pimps-Ligtning Field</lj:music>

So childrens, here's the digs. It's 1:47 AM, I'm still dressed and feeling detatched. I have a brand new beast of a computer that I have been enjoying thoroughly lately. Playing around with linux, adoring the game F.E.A.R., and loving the fact that I actually have a separate computer to be my server. Then why is it that I still feel like I'm floating? I suppose it could be the fact that I'm actually going to finish undergrad this year. Could also be that I'm currently living in a completely different world due to the post-Katrina wonderfulness, yes, it's a word. Nothing is open late, let alone 24 hours. I think wal-mart still closes at 8 PM. The Tulane library closes at midnight and I'll be damned if I can get any good reading done unless I'm doing a 6PM-6AM shift with Tracy (doctor friend) at the hospital. Planning the move to Fort Worth is also somewhat surreal now. I need to figure out when we're going so we can pick out a place and whatnot, but it somewhat feels like there's fog around it in my mind. I do apologize if this is more rambly than my usual wittiness, but I'm a bit spent. One good thing is that my brother is coming in from Virginia for Mardi Gras this Thursday. OOH! I just remembered! I'm also getting these jeans (http://rufskin.com/product.php?product_id=4). I normally hate denim, but this company makes some amazing jeans. So all is not lost. Maybe this week will revive me with a good bout of drinking and game playing. It's been a while since I've actually had fun. I bid you uhdoo with an excerpt from this wonderful poem: "Hi my name is Bingo, I like to climb on things. Can I have a banana? Eek eek!"

I really got a taste of what my career choice will be like. For the past year and a half I've been working with a doctor in his clinic. Seen the occasional gross/neat thing, learned a lot, etc. I've gone on rounds with him at Tulane before, no big deal, just cool. However, that was all from an attending's standpoint. Since returning from Katrina's House Of Fun, I've been going with him moonlighting at Lakeside hospital emergent care. Here's where the fun starts: we do a shift from 6 PM to 6 AM. Now, me being a night owl, this is no problem. The only problem is, its on Friday and Saturday, and I still gots class and lab all day Friday. So, this weekend, I got up on Friday at about 8 AM and did the school bit, then went to the ER at 6 PM. Well, not only is he moonlighting in the ER, he's also on call for Pediatrics (he does med/peds). So I stayed and rounded with him until about 9 AM ish. Come home, napped for maybe an hour (give or take) and then got to go to a Shriner/clown lunch at Andrea's. Which was pretty good. Then, came home and made dessert for the ER, because we were bringing food. So I made cream cheese ice cream, cream biscuits, and a brandy berry sauce from scratch and headed back to the ER. After the 2nd night, I was a tired puppy. But all is not bad, I got to see what happens when you don't clean yourself and get an abscess on your lower back. As an instructional note to all, bathe. It takes care of a lot of problems and avoids you having needles stuck in your back, scalpels cutting your back, and generously squeezed until a liberal amount of pus and blood gets oozed out of a now larger hole in your skin. Now I'm off to eat more ice cream.......mmmm, it's white too.

I have figured out that jumping into pre-med classes two weeks late is a bad call. I did a 2-day, 4 hour per day organic chemistry fest in lab last week. So not cool. Anyways, I get to make up the test from last Friday on this Friday. I'd tell more, but this damned library only lets me use qwerty and I use the ever-so-yummy dvorak......damned library with its damned books....ya smug bastid.

Actually, on my test, everyone is. The above score breaks down what kind of thinking you most enjoy
doing. A score above 100% means you use that kind of thinking more than
average, and a score below 100% means you use it less. It says nothing
about how good you are at any one, just how interested you are in each, relatively. A substantial difference in scores between two people means, conclusively, that they are different kinds of thinkers.

Matching Summary: Each of us has different tastes. Anyway, you're reasonably happy and having too much fun being you.
Take this quiz!

Quizilla |
Join

| Make A Quiz | More Quizzes | Grab Code

I'm very annoyed that there was no Scrubs this week.........makey Meado sad.........very sad indeed. One thought that I do enjoy rolling around my brain and, occasionally off my tongue, is the simple little phrase "Dr. Kincke." The closer I get to finishing undergrad, the weirder I feel about what people's expectations of me will become. Not to say that I'll ever become "old." I fully plan on doing rounds in clown shoes at least once a week. I'm not quite sure what the whole point of this statement was......but ferris wheels are pretty............mmmmmmm.......ferris wheels.....

You are...Dr. Cox

A.K.A. "The Big Jerk"

Rebel, thy name is YOU! You don't do things by the rules -- at all -- and you're damn proud of it, despite the fact that such a philosophy tends to bite you in the ass more often than you like. Your brusque and sarcastic manner puts off most around you, but your high standards elicit nothing but respect. It's possible that your rough exterior is a cover to deeper, more vulnerable feelings inside. Only you know for sure.

<lj:music>Sister Hazel-Change Your Mind (in my head funnily enough)</lj:music>

I've discovered that those involved in the medical community, although great people, are just a smidge pompous. I haven't determined this from a bad or series of bad experiences with those in question, moreover from reading medical textbooks. Currently, my literary choice is limited to Histology: A Text And Atlas. Now, I am one to enjoy the use of "big words," however there comes a time when one must ask oneself, "do I sound intelligent, or merely a royal prick." Here's some examples just so you will be enlightened: reniform and erythrocyte. Reniform-Having the form or shape of a kidney. Erythrocyte-a mature blood cell (more specifically red). Now, I'm well aware that saying "reniform" is somewhat shorter than "kidney-shaped," and "erythrocyte" sounds a bit more intelligent than merely stating "red blood cell," but after about 400 or so pages of pompous jackasses making me get out a dictionary for non-medical words, I grew a bit tired. It would be one thing if it were to take more time to understand the creation process of a red or white blood cell, but it takes more to find out what "granulopoiesis" means. Barg..........that's how I feel about these people.....just barg. "It's a monochromatic blending of calcified ectoplasm" a.k.a. "it's eggshell." Just something to ponder.
